The Finisher:
Yesterday, Warner Brothers issued a DCMA takedown of a few videos, including a few clips from the classic artificial intelligence film Blade Runner, from the streaming site Vimeo. The problem is one of the clips that they were asked to take down wasn’t from the movie at all; instead it was from a neural network encoding project that was attempting to reconstruct the movie from disassembled data. So in other words: Warner has just DCMA’d an artificial reconstruction of a film about AI being indistinguishable from humans, because it couldn’t distinguish between AI and humans. We all know the singularity is coming and it’s only a matter of time before RoboRosewater wins its first Pro Tour, so what do you expect to be the next step on the way towards our inevitable robot overlords?
